Back to School: Covid19 Edition

October 17, 2020

I didn’t think I would be adding to my “Back to School” series until next year when my oldest goes to Scuola Media (Middle School). However, Covid-19’s plans to totally screw up the entire world means I get to document another exciting moment in our lives. February 21, 2020 was the last time my girls … More Back to School: Covid19 Edition

Back to School: Elementary school

September 28, 2019

Good bye and Thank you Scuola Materna. You have been good to us. Thank you for 6 years of the same amazing teachers. You have not only prepared my girls for the next chapter in their lives but have taught me as well. You have taken a shy, new mom and foreigner and turned her … More Back to School: Elementary school

Back to school: Italy vs USA- The extras

September 17, 2018

In the 5 years that I have had children in the Italian school system I have become used to the small details that I once thought were funny or strange. Perhaps because it’s Italy, or that it’s still super ‘Old School’ but there are a few little differences that I noticed when Miss V started … More Back to school: Italy vs USA- The extras

Back to School: Italy vs USA school lunch

October 4, 2017

School is back in full swing and I finally have some me time. Last month I wrote about the differences between buying school supplies in Italy vs USA. Today, I want to continue the ‘Back to School’ comparison but this time we’re talking about LUNCH! We’ve all seen those videos of lunches around the world, … More Back to School: Italy vs USA school lunch

Back to school: ITALY vs USA school supplies

September 18, 2017

We’ve just finished our first week of school and the girls are just as excited now as they were on the first day. It’s hard to believe that we now have a second grader, kindergartner, and a pre-kindergartner! Every year that passes, the things I thought were strange have now become normal to me. So … More Back to school: ITALY vs USA school supplies

It is with sadness that we say Ciao to Nonna Adelasia. From the moment I walked into her house, she treated me like a daughter. She taught me her recipes and she helped me with my girls. She would always offer to help even when her Dementia got worse. She was funny and we have lots of good memories. Thank you Nonna for everything. We love you and will miss you so much. RIP
Have you ever seen a more excited 8 year old?!? Rosie has been looking forward to this day for months. Last year she cried for days when school got postponed over and over again but we’re so grateful that she gets to celebrate with her class this year!
Unicorns really do exist. I know because I have one and today, she’s 9 years old! It’s been a weird year with the pandemic hitting Italy on her birthday and then she got sick. Of course as soon as she got better, we started lockdown which just pushed everything back even more. We almost didn’t make it this year but luckily I got better just in time!
Did anyone celebrate World Nutella Day? It began 14 years ago and I have been celebrating for 12. Truth be told, it’s not as fun since Ferrero took over in 2015. However, I was feeling nostalgic and decided to make up some quick and easy Ricotta cookies with Nutella. Rosie said that the best way to eat @Nutella is by itself. 😂 How do you eat Nutella? #worldnutelladay #nutelladay
On this morning’s walk, I spotted lots of confetti (coriandoli) and streamers on trees (stelle filanti). That means Carnevale is near and while it should be all fun and games for kids, it just reminds me that we are approaching the ONE year mark of life with Covid. 😩 #carnevale2021
Somehow I missed National Pizza Day which was yesterday. How much do I love pizza? Well here are some pizza facts:
