It’s early Sunday morning and I’m am just hours away from the deadline for the May DolceVitaBloggers Link up! I sadly haven’t been able to make the deadlines in the past so I’m pretty excited that I finally got a post done in time! (even if it’s 2am!)
I have been thinking about this post for a while. May’s topic is ‘Favorite Italian regions and why’. Writing this post is like asking me which one is my favorite child. Some days you like one better than the other. Moms… you know what I’m talking about right?!? 😜
I have not been to EVERY REGION of Italy so don’t get all upset that I didn’t pick your favorite. 🤷🏽♀️
Val D’Aosta is located in the NorthWest corner of Italy. It shares borders with France, Switzerland and my region of Piemonte. What I love about Val D’Aosta is that it is completely under everyone’s radar. A lot of the tourist that visit are from France and Switzerland so you almost forget that you are actually still in Italy. Which majestic mountain views, it’s the perfect place for a winter getaway OR a summer retreat!
To balance out my love for Val D’Aosta, there’s the region of Liguria. Most think of the port city of Genoa which is still on my Bucket list to visit, but I encourage you to visit Imperia. A small port town that is Instagramable. If you’re into sailing, then you should plan to visit during Vele d’Epoca di Imperia.
During the high season of tourism, you’ll find everyone near Cinque Terre. If you want magnificent views and hiking but want to avoid the big crowds, then I suggest you go a bit north and visit Santa Margherita Ligure. You can visit the near by towns of Camogli, Rapallo, Paraggi and one of my favourites.. Portofino.
I must warn you, if you do make it to Portofino, just know that it is the playground for the rich and famous. Sir Elton John, Madonna, Cher and Rihanna have all partied there. As well as Old Hollywood maga stars like Liz Taylor, Clark Gable, Rita Hayworth and more! So don’t be too surprised if your wallet takes a big hit.
What’s your favorite Italian region? If you don’t have one, where would you like to visit?
