Never Ending Laundry

One thing I commented on Facebook the other day is how I was washing baby clothes and then blankets.  I only got a few responses to that post but they all contained the same message… when there’s a new baby…. laundry never ends.  This is a fact I already know.  Having 4 kids in the family, my mother was constantly washing something and yes… I’m sure she didn’t like it.

Having grown up and started doing my own laundry, I didn’t like it either. It’s annoying and I hated having to put clothes away.  However, living in Italy has made me appreciate the small things that most people take for granted.  For example: A washing machine that doesn’t take 90 minutes to do one load.  I’m sure I could get a new washing machine that would be quicker but, our machine works just fine.  As for the dryer that we don’t have, well… they ruin clothes.  Really… I’ve seen the clothes that Carlo has had for 10 years.. and they look better than some of his shirts that he bought in Texas.  Most people in Italy don’t have dryers and the ones that do are Americans who live here.
Once we moved, I quickly learned to love doing laundry.  I just enjoy the fact that I have to “hang” my clothes out on the line.  It’s like stepping back in time.  It reminds me of when I was little and I would run in between the sheets at my grandmothers house and because of this memory, I really, really do enjoy doing laundry.
So, this past week, I received a package from my mom containing more baby clothes.  I had been waiting for the package so that I could start washing and preparing everything for the big arrival. (I’ve only got one month left!!!)
one thing I hadn’t gotten yet were 0-3 month onesies.. until now
this one definitely made daddy smile
i have always loved these “sweet pea” gowns.
… and I am a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh so of course all of my kids will have some kind of Winnie the Pooh item
Now that I had more clothes that Valentina would be wearing soon, it was time to start washing.  One thing my mom always told me was that my grandmother LOVED hanging baby clothes outside because they just looked so cute on the line.
I must say.. I agree!
I already wash a load of clothes a day.. sometimes 2 and that’s ok with me. I don’t mind.
Seriously…. how fun is it to see this hanging on a line?!?!?

  1. I got some hand me downs from my sisters. Just before Rachel was born my mom helped me wash and prep all the clothes. There were some white clothes that still looked dingy. But, in what seemed like a miracle, we hung them out in the sun and they became bright white. It really helps when the spit up just won't come out.

I love all of those little clothes! Baby laundry is constant but it has a happiness that counteracts the drudgery.

You have 5 more presents that I have to open, and some money from Nora and Gise. I really wish I could send pic, but this comp. is not cooperating with me.
